The Genealogist's Donation List - who will take what and where?

Brochure Questions, comments contact the Genealogists Donation List

The purpose of this project is to collect and distribute a list of organizations (museums, libraries, historical societies, genealogy groups, etc.) that accept donation of historical and/or genealogical material from the public. The list will include contact information and types of donations accepted.

OK what exactly are we talking about? So you've gathered up all your old family photos, interviewed relatives and researched ancestors. Now you have pedigree charts, family group worksheets, identified photos, a small library of research books and perhaps even some family history publications (created by you). You don't want all your efforts to be in vain and realize the best chance 'it' has to survive test of time is to get as many copies as possible out there. So you give copies to your relatives. But what about museums, libraries, historical societies, genealogy groups and the like? Will they want a copy of what you have?

What we would like to do is to put together a comprehensive list of these institutions and groups that describes the sorts of donations they will accept. Root Cellar will accept your donations, but will also maintain a list of other organizations that accept historical and/or genealogical items. Each entry includes a description of the organization, contact information and specifics on what they will and will not accept.

The Genealogist's Donation List project is a 100% all volunteer effort. All the posted information was submitted by self-selected volunteers by interviewing the appropriate organizational contacts. This is a brain child of Richard L Hanson, an active member of Root Cellar.Thank you Richard. Alot of people around the country will benefit from this project.

If you would like to participate as you travel around the country or if you live in another part of the country and want to contribute please download the form to use Interview/Donation Form and send it back in by mail(POBox 265, Citrus Heights, CA 95611) or email it back. Thank you.
