SAVE THIS DATE ON YOUR CALENDAR and PLAN TO ATTEND WITH FRIENDS
This is a great way to introduce a friend and/or another family member to something that we love and get them hooked too. This will be a full fun day of classes, and learning. It will be geared toward helping beginners get started but it will be helpful to everyone to improve their sleuthing skills and get back to basics.

Family History Day 2010 BLOG Yes, a blog that will keep you up-to-date on what is going on at FHD2010, all the activities, the programs, the speakers, what to expect and why you and a friend should be attending....... please sign up as a follower and when the blog is updated you will be notified, pretty sweet!


SAVE THE DATE: 2 October 2010... the first Saturday will be OPEN HOUSE at the California State Archives. Get a great up-close and personal tour of the Archives. What a great opportunity for all of us. There will be MINI TOURS during the day of Family History Day, but if you are like me and want to attend the classes that day, take advantage of this opportunity and take the more detailed tour on the 2nd at OPEN HOUSE. (just a thought)

NEW The Nevada County Genealogical Society will be sponsoring a new genealogy Study Group led by Donna Dugle Young. This Study Group will meet at the Madelyn Helling Library's Community Room (in Nevada City) on the fourth Tuesday of the month from 1pm to 2:30 pm. The doors will not open until 1:00 but we will start shortly after). Each session will have a different topic.

After each session, you'll go home with a detailed handout and information to stimulate your research. The Study Group is open and free to the public, but we're hoping you'll want to become a part of our society

NCGS will meet in the Community Room of the Helling Library, Nevada City (Tuesday, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm) Their meetings are open to all those interested in Genealogy. For more info. contact (530) 273-0855

NEW Genealogy Classes through "Sacramento Central Library", 828 I Street, Sacramento in the first floor of the West meeting room on SUNDAYS 1:30-3p (NOTE: NOT SATURDAY) Pre-registration is suggested in some cases, and necessary in other cases. Please call 916-264-2920 or visit Central Library. Click on EVENTS at top of page. Check this website for other fun and varied classes. There are classes for beginning computor users, for beginning Internet users, Knitters, Crocheters, Music, Food, Gardening, Book Clubs, childrens classes and so much more.

NEW On-Line Classes


AVAILABLE NOW Family History Center

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah has been providing classes to patrons for many years. In the past, a patron would have to travel to the Library to take advantage of these classes, but no longer. The Library will begin testing different methods of exporting these classes to patrons who reside outside of the Salt Lake City area. The first method to be tested is a set of five lessons in a classroom setting in a video format. These lessons are now available online and cover the basics of getting started with "FAMILY HISTORY RESEARCH IN ENGLAND". The lessons are located on Family History Center in Sacramento scroll down to the box that says "Online Training Classes" click on MORE

Widi in the Hawaiian language means 'quick' or 'rapidly'. The FamilySearch Wiki* is a free and quick way to access zillions of databases or the internet. In this introductory class, we will cover: - Exploring the home page of the FamilySearch Wiki - Learn to use the 'navigation bar' (a new Hawaiian Pub) - search for articles in the Wiki - Edit and contribute articles to the Wiki. Like the "Wiki", the class is free and easy with no special skills (just look at the instructor) required. * "A wiki is a collaborative Website and comprises the perpetual collective work of many authors"

    --- 22 September 2010 - Immigration Records Online - Lynn Brown. Are you searching for immigration and naturalization records? The immigration experience was recorded in a variety of records. A review of the naturalization process during various periods of US history will give insight into the types of records available. Presentation includes a handout of websites and tutorials online.

    --- 29 September 2010 - Easy Way to Create Family Newsletters with Marion Kile. wouldn't it be nice to have a family newsletter that helps connect folks as well as couments current events? Marian will show us an easy way to use email to collect articles from family members and distrubute the final product. No special software needed for this simple process.

NEW - 11 September 2010, Silicon Valley Computer Genealogy Group and the Santa Clara County Historical & Genealogical Society are co-sponsoring a FREE seminar on "Ppublishing your Family’s History". Classes will include Publishing full Genealogies, Online Publishing, Photo Books, Children's Books, Recipe Books, Self Publishing, Blogging, and a Creative Writing Workshop. The seminar will be held at the LDS Family History Center, 875 Quince Avenue in Santa Clara. Registration opens at 7:30am and classes run from 8:15am to 4:00pm.
